About us
Thanet Roadrunners AC are a road running and athletics club, based in Thanet (Margate, Broadstairs, Ramsgate and surrounding areas). Established in 1982, the club is now firmly established as one of the leading athletics clubs in Kent. You will see us racing at other events across the county of Kent, the country and worldwide. We compete in Road Racing, Cross Country, Junior Athletics. We also put on a number of races each year, which have been praised for their organisation, scenery and value for money.
We are a friendly club and we cater for all standards of athletes from those vying for national rankings to those who are in it for fun. So whatever your ability, don't be put off. We appreciate that the hardest part of all is knowing how to get started and joining a running club can be a daunting prospect for many. That’s why our club has a friendly ethos and is completely welcoming for complete beginners, those relatively new to running, those who want to get back into running or those experienced runners who might have moved into the Thanet area.
Why should I run?
Running is one of the least expensive and most effective ways to get and stay fit. It offers many benefits such as improved health, weight loss, increased energy and better sleep. After getting started and as your running fitness increases you may even be inspired and motivated to join one of the many popular mass participation charity runs such as the Cancer Research "Race For Life" or perhaps even the London marathon! If you already jog or run then you will realise the benefits of running with a group – it’s easier, more fun and a good way to make new friends.
Benefits of Joining
We provide benefits to both junior and senior athletes, both serious and more light hearted. Whoever you are: young or old (or in between); fast or slow Thanet Roadrunners AC will have something for you.
For Younger Athletes
For Athletes aged 11-16 we provide coaching in the major areas of athletics - running, throwing and jumping. Coached by qualified coaches we can bring out the ability in all junior athletes. Junior athletes from the club represent us at events throughout the county and further afield.
For Social Runners
Even if you don't want to race hard, many runners enjoy being part of the club. Many of our training runs are social as well as being good exercise. We have a number of social events from curry evenings, BBQ runs in the summer as well as taking part in the East Kent Summer Relay Series (finishing off with the best post race picnic of them all).
Don't forget that many of the races we do are pretty social as well.
For Serious Runners
We have training sessions 6 days a week, with differing levels of ability at each. These are scattered around Thanet and will also take place at our new track.
We Race regularly. We take part in the Kent Championships, Grand Prix, and at Kent's Cross Country Leagues. We have organised trips to the Regional and National Cross Country Championships. Some of our runners have represented Kent in Country Championships.
Don't forget the club also has socials as well.
Like to give it a go?
There is training on almost every day of the week. Just turn up for a no-obligation introductory session (or two or three...), or for further information please contact Mark Foster.
