Cranleigh 15/21 mile 2011 (20th Mar 2011)
Start time: 9.00
Location: Cranleigh, Surrey
TRAC member John Cooper ran in the 21 mile event at the Cranleigh 15/21 on Sunday, where a 15 mile option was also available. Many thanks to John who has sent a brief report of the day……
It was a warm day and the route was undulating over mainly country roads (no footpaths) which were open to traffic. Around 1000 runners took part in both events. The course was a figure of eight, with a 9 mile lap then a 6 mile lap, for the 15 mile race, with the 6 mile lap being repeated for the full 21 mile distance (which was in fact 21.2 miles). The start was very crowded due to the road width and it being open to traffic, therefore taking a couple miles to get into any proper stride. It was an excellent scenic course over testing terrain, which John completed in 2 hrs 48 mins (11 minutes quicker than last year, and good enough for 174th of the nearly 550 finishers). The winning time was 1 hr 57 minutes.
Well done, John!
