East Kent Road Relay Series 2011

We have now confirmed dates for 2011's Tuesday evening road relay series, which will follow the style of previous years - we'll confirm venues as the fixtures approach:
10/5/11 Folkestone - 19:15 - start at the rotunda area
24/5/11 Minnis Bay - 19:30. There will also be a junior race at Minnis Bay starting at 19:10 over approximately a mile - everyone runs together.
7/6/11 Ashford AC, Victoria Park - 19:30
21/6/11 Deal Seafront - 19:30
5/7/11 Canterbury (Invicta EK) at the track - 19:30
It is possible just to turn up and run on the night but it is much easier for the Men’s and Ladies Captains to organise teams if they know in advance you are intending to compete so please try to let Steve Clarke and Sarah Harmes know if you are interested. You do not have to compete in all 5 races as final results in each race and the whole series are based on the team.
For the 2nd leg at Minnis Bay, I will as always need some volunteers – 5 marshals to be out on the course and ideally 2 finish line teams each consisting of 3 people. If you are willing and able to help out at Minnis Bay could you please either let me know in person or drop me an email at jax@lucyhoover.freeserve.co.uk.
In the 2009 season the Vet 50 men won their category comfortably and in 2010 the Vet 60 men did the same. The senior men improved from 5th to 2nd and the Vet 50 men (the “Steves & Graham” team) placed 3rd overall in their category in 2010. The senior ladies improved from 4th in 2009 to 2nd on countback in 2010 thus crowing a successful campaign for the club.
However although the competition is fierce at the sharp end of the field the road relays have a lot more to offer. This series of races has always been a popular way to sharpen up and get in some speed work for the summer whilst enjoying the fun of being in a team and the company of club-mates, not to mention the traditional (and now much copied) nosh up after the final race while waiting for the overall series results to be confirmed.
So please come along, support your club and have some fun.
