A triumphant end to the East Kent Road Relay Series saw various teams from the club go up to receive prizes in 4 different categories. Most successful of the evening were the men's vet60 team who once again won their category although competition was a little scarce! However you can only beat those that turn up and the guys did just that. Unluckiest team perhaps was the men's vet40 team who tied on points with the category winners but were awarded 2nd place on count back re the number of wins. Their achievement was matched by the senior ladies who also gained 2nd place and the vet35 ladies rounded off the successful evening with a 3rd place overall. There is also a special mention for the senior men's team who for many of the races consisted partially or fully of our youngest members - in a cruel mistake they were awarded 3rd place and then had their prizes removed when the compere realised he had misread and they were actually 4th. I think the actual 3rd place team were a bit embarrassed to take trophies from the young lads!! However the club is proud of them for their splendid efforts.

Thanks to everyone who has turned out to any of the legs in the 5-race series and to those who helped out at our leg at Minnis Bay. Thanks also to Steve and Sarah for their work organising the teams for each race.

Photos of the prize winners will go up on the site shortly as will the results from leg 4 (and leg 5 if we get any)

East Kent Road Relay Series 2012 - round 2 (29th May 2012)

Location: Minnis Bay

Start time: 19.30

Host: TRAC

There was a strong turnout from Junior club members at Thanet Roadrunners AC’s home leg of the East Kent Inter-Club Road Relay series on Tuesday 29th May 2012.

Nine youngsters ran in the main race against their elders, posting some impressive times over the 2.3 mile (3.7KM) course.

The Thanet Roadrunners AC Mens’ “A” team was composed entirely of Junior Boys, with the quartet achieving a combined time of 54:55 for 6th place overall.  Their individual performances (with current track age groups in brackets) were:  Bobby Harrop (U17) 13:18 (first leg); Oliver Cooper (U15) 14:13 (second leg); Caine Moir (U13) 13:35 (third leg); Alex Kavanagh (U13) 13:49 (fourth leg).

The TRAC Mens’ “B” team comprised two Seniors and two Juniors.  Spencer Hoult (Senior) led off with 14:57, followed by Tom Winch (U15) 14:30 (second leg); Alfie Grafton (U15) 14:36 (third leg) and José Martin (Senior) 13:46 (fourth leg) bringing them home in 8th position overall in a time of 57:49.

Tilly Ellis-Jarman (U17) 14:40 (first leg) got the TRAC Ladies “A” team off to a flying start, followed by Emily Bond (U13) 15:17 (second leg) and Michaela Hill (Senior) 14:26 (third leg).  The trio attained an excellent second place overall in 44:23.

Kealy Goldsmith (U13) 16:22 (first leg) ran for the Thanet Roadrunners AC Ladies “B” team followed by Sarah Watkiss (Senior) 18:20 (second leg) and Becky Williams (Senior) 16:01 (third leg) 50:43 and fifth place overall.

The main race was preceded by 1.25 mile (2KM) race for those Juniors still at primary school.  Hughie Coleman (8:11) was a narrow victor from Jon Hart (8:12), whist Rebecca Hales (8:32) was the first girl and third overall.  With some very similar names amongst the other finishers, I shall update this report once all identities have been confirmed!
