Harbour Wallbanger 2015 (23rd May 2015)
Location: Viking Bay, Broadstairs
Start time: 10.00
Well done to all the runners in this morning's 2015 edition of our popular beach race, the Harbour Wallbanger. The sellout led to the largest field for some years, with 147 finishers. First home was Canterbury Harriers runner, Thomas Millard in 28.17, a minute ahead of TRAC’s very own Chris Brenchley in 30.41 just clear of Martin Boucher from Deal Tri in 30.48. First lady home was Clare Mullenger of Wimbledon Windmilers, reclaiming her title after a year away, with her time of 31.59 good enough for a top 10 finish. TRAC provided the 2nd and 3rd ladies, junior Kealy Goldsmith in 35.27 and Louise Tomlinson a minute further back clocking 36.35.
TRAC also carried off the team prize with a team consisting of Chris Brenchley (2nd), Nigel Cook (6th) and Matt Jones (17th). Loads of TRACcies took part – far too many to list – but well done all!!
Well done to Race Director Spencer Hoult and the team for another successful event, and very many thanks to our main race sponsor Airport Connections for helping to ensure the race can go ahead. We also offer thanks to the Broadstairs Pavilion, Sweatshop Maidstone, RAYNET, Margate Ambulance Services and all the marshals en route. If runners could please rate the race and leave any comments on Runners World, we would be very grateful.
In due course, Spencer will be presenting at least £1 from each entry to the Thanet Lifeguard Club, which encourages water safety awareness and Lifesaving skills to the people of Thanet and the community within. The club is part of Surf Life Saving GB, with more than 6,000 volunteers helping to make our beaches a safer and more enjoyable place for everyone.

We would like to extend our thanks to the following people and organisations, without whom the race would not take place:
- Airport Connections - 01843 823 700 / 01843 823 007
- Broadstairs Pavilion (Thorley Taverns)
- Sweatshop Maidstone
- Thanet Constabulary - for their help and guidance
- RAYNET- for their excellence and communications experience
- The Margate Ambulance Service - without whose help we could not stage this event
- The myriad of helpers and marshals - who all give up their time voluntarily to ensure all goes smoothly. Please be nice to them out on the route – without them you would not have a race. Any runner who is rude to a marshal may well be barred from future races.
We will again be supporting a local charity – at least £1 from each entry will be donated to the Thanet Lifeguard Club, which encourages water safety awareness and Lifesaving skills to the people of Thanet and the community within. The club is part of Surf Life Saving GB, with more than 6,000 volunteers helping to make our beaches a safer and more enjoyable place for everyone.
