This event will once again be supporting a local charity – for 2012, this will be The Alfie Gough Trust (UK Registred Charity -1144380). Please click on the links below for details of their work, and for a sponsor form if you are able to raise further funds.
A BARR Event, the races will be run under UK Athletics rules. The minimum age 18 on day of race for Marathon, and age 17 for Half-Marathon. We regret that these races are not suitable for wheelchair athletes owing to short stretches of unpaved surfaces.

Course measurement certificate - Half marathon: 12/152 Full marathon: 12/151
Please note: NO HEADPHONES may be worn during the event by competitors. Please do not enter the race and then decide to run with headphones. This may mean the race will not be able to be run in future years.
We have decided that IPod and MP3 players will be BANNED during this race.
PRIZE MONEY IS OFFERED TO THE FIRST MALE AND FEMALE FINISHERS - £75 to the marathon winners and £50 to the half marathon winners. In addition, there will be awards for second and third male and female runners, and also for teams and age categories. All finishers will receive a race memento, and a Thanet Roadrunners AC 30th Anniversary technical T-shirt.
Supporters
We would like to extend our thanks to the following people and organisations, without whom the race would not take place:
- Foster’s Law
- Thanet District Council
- Asics - for supplying goody bags
- Thanet Constabulary - for their help and guidance
- RAYNET - for their excellence and communications experience
- The Margate Ambulance services - without whose help we could not stage this event
- Local scout groups - manning the water stations
- The myriad of helpers and marshals - who all give up their time voluntarily to ensure all goes smoothly. Please be nice to them out on the route – without them you would not have a race – any runner who is rude to a marshal may well be barred from future races.
Course Details
Due to some maintenance work in Margate, the course will have a few minor changes from that used in recent years. The race HQ will be Palm Bay School in Cliftonville, and the race will start with a loop around Palm Bay before following a largely coastal route through Broadstairs towards Ramsgate, heading back to complete the half marathon at Cliftonville. Those running the marathon then continue through Margate, again largely along the coast, before turning at Minnis Bay and heading back to finish at Palm Bay School.
The slightly amended course for 2012 with new race HQ has now been measured - here's a link to the official race distance measurement certification page, which has a detailed outline of the course. The main differences are the start and finish area, and the turns in Ramsgate and at Minnis Bay. Thanks to Dave Bennett for the mapmyrun link – although from the 2011 course, it gives a good idea of the profile, which is generally undulating for the first half and largely flat for the second half!!
