Kent Coastal Marathon and Half-Marathon

Fosters Law Kent Coastal Marathon and Half Marathon 2013 (1st Sep 2013)

Location: Palm Bay School, Cliftonville. CT9 3PP.

Start time: 9.30

Host: TRAC

26 miles and 385 yard distance and 13 mile 192.5 yard races available. For the first time, both races are BARR Gold Standard accredited.

The races will be run under UK Athletics rules. UKA Race licence: 2013-7264. The minimum age 18 on day of race for Marathon, and age 17 for Half-Marathon. We regret that these races are not suitable for wheelchair athletes owing to short stretches of unpaved surfaces. We’ll have more portaloos, both races will have chip timing, baggage storage, and Tim Sutton will be on hand to work those aching limbs after the race.

The marathon race incorporates the Kent Road Race Grand Prix and the Kent Championships team event for all ages, and the individual series for veterans only. For guidance of the senior championship events, please see the full rules on the KCAA website. Once again, the marathon will be the championship race for the Southern Counties Veterans Athletics Championships.

This event will once again be supporting a local charity – The Kent Association for the Blind. We will donate at least £1 from each marathon and half marathon entry, but please think about raising money for our official charity. Read more about the great work they do on this leaflet and here's a sponsorship form to start raising!

Please note: NO HEADPHONES may be worn during the event by competitors. In line with current BARR and UKA guidelines, we have decided that IPod and MP3 players will be BANNED during this race. Please do not enter the race and then decide to run with headphones – you may be disqualified, and it may mean the race will not go ahead in future years.

PRIZE MONEY IS OFFERED TO THE FIRST MALE AND FEMALE FINISHERS - £75 to the marathon winners and £50 to the half marathon winners. In addition, there will be awards for second and third male and female runners, and also for teams and age categories. All finishers will receive a race medal, a technical T-shirt and a goody bag.

Supporters

We would like to extend our thanks to the following people and organisations, without whom the race would not take place:

  • Foster’s Law – we are very pleased to announce that Fosters Law have increased their commitment for these races
  • Thanet District Council
  • Sweatshop & Asics - for supplying numbers and goody bags
  • High5 sports nutrition - for energy gels
  • Thanet Constabulary - for their help and guidance
  • RAYNET - for their excellence and communications experience
  • The Margate Ambulance services - without whose help we could not stage this event
  • Local scout groups - manning the water stations
  • The myriad of helpers and marshals - who all give up their time voluntarily to ensure all goes smoothly. Please be nice to them out on the route – without them you would not have a race – any runner who is rude to a marshal may well be barred from future races.

Race Photographs

Jodi Hanagan will once again be on hand taking race photographs around the course. You will be able to download or order prints through her website (http://www.jodihanaganphotography.com) shortly after the event.

Race Results

The race will be chip timed by IEK Chip Timing. Please collect your chip from race HQ (Palm Bay School, Cliftonville. CT9 3PP) between 7.30 and 9.15 on race day. Results will be on the following links after the race:

half marathon & full marathon

Course Map and Profile

The course will follow the same route as used in 2012. The race HQ will be Palm Bay School in Cliftonville, and the race will start with a loop around Palm Bay before following a largely coastal route through Broadstairs towards Ramsgate, heading back to complete the half marathon at Cliftonville. Those running the marathon then continue through Margate, again largely along the coast, before turning at Minnis Bay and heading back to finish at Palm Bay School.

Online Entries to be handled by Runners World - half marathon & full marathon (for Runners' World subscribers only until June, but will be open to all in plenty of time).

Entries to: Kent Coastal Marathon, 19 Favourite Road, Whitstable, Kent. CT5 4UF. Please ensure that full postage is affixed, do not staple your cheque and remember to include a stamped self-addressed C5 envelope for return of your race pack.

* A reminder that any club member wishing to run the half marathon should provide a marshal – your entry will not be accepted unless you include their contact details with your entry form. Also, it would be much appreciated if any club member planning to run the full marathon could provide a marshal in their stead. This is the club’s main event, and a huge number are needed across the entire marathon course, so we do need all club members to pull together. Thanks!

Race Packs

Race packs including numbers will be sent out approximately two weeks before the event. If your cheque is cashed, you have been entered successfully.

The race information packs will contain information for all runners, which is also available on the website. If you do not receive your number in your race pack, then this means that you either have additional fees to pay or there is some other query with your entry. You can contact us for more information.
