Provisional results now out!

Many congratulations to all the runners in today’s Fosters Law Kent Coastal Marathon and Half Marathon, and big thanks to all race organisers, marshals and of course our race sponsors for helping to ensure that Thanet Roadrunners continues to bring you Kent’s only road marathon race - Fosters Law, Fujifilm, Thanet District Council, High5 sports nutrition, Thanet Constabulary, RAYNET, Margate Ambulance services, local scout groups and all the marshals en route, and the Psyching Team from the University of Kent’s School of Sport & Exercise Science with their orange shirts and motivational messages!!

Thanks to all those who answered our short survey at the end, despite the lack of breath in some cases! Please could all runners rate the race and leave and comments on Runners World – it helps us and also any prospective runners in the future. And if you could please also take a few moments to complete the short survey on how useful you found the psyching team.

A reminder that we will donate at least £1 from each entry fee to this year's charity, East Kent Rapeline (reg. charity. 1017581), a group that offers invaluable support to the survivors of rape and childhood sexual abuse across Thanet. For more details of the valuable work they do, please visit their website (www.eastkentrapeline.com).

Full provisional results from UK Sports Timing are on the links below – please let us know of any issues, by email to our entry coordinator, Terry Brightwell, at t.brightwell3450@outlook.com.

Full marathon      Half marathon

Results for SCVAC, Kent Championships, the Kent Grand Prix and the Club Championships will be circulated in due course. A full press release will follow in this week’s Thanet Gazette, including details of TRAC’s Mark Foster, who ran the course for the eighth time in ten days, with team mate Pete Gough keeping him company on each of the last three days! And blind runner Paul Watts who completed the marathon course for at least the third consecutive year, in a very respectable 5.26.

Despite the wind and the sun, all reaces had some cracking times, comfortably beating last year’s show. There were 314 finishers in the half marathon, with special congratulations to Alex Day of East London Runners, who crossed the lined first in 1.18.51, just ahead of Deal Tri’s Matthew Collyer (1.19.07). Patrick Brown (1.20.49) was two minutes behind his team mate to make it two in the top three for East London. Kerry Scott from Arena 80 claimed ladies’ first place, in 1.35.10, who was well clear of Faye Jeacocke from Victoria Park Harriers (1.39.58) and Plumstead Runners’ Dawn Saunders (1.42.27).

In the marathon, we had 193 finishers. Owen Greene of Fife AC claimed top spot in a fantastic time of 2.37.32, ahead of the more local Thomas Millard from Canterbury Harriers (2.41.40), and Edward Catmur from Thames Hare & Hounds (2.46.10). Canterbury went one better in the ladies’ race, as Sarah Maguire was first in 3.35.25, ahead of two runners from Maidstone Harriers – Julie Stoppani (3.42.16) who repeated last year’s runner up performance, despite being a minute quicker, and Catherine Roberts in third with 3.44.29.

Official race photos will be available to view and download from Jodi Hanagan’s website shortly. She is again offering a 30% discount for digital files for 24 hours, reducing the price per file from £5.50 to £3.85. All you have to do is like her facebook page - the code will be on her page and valid for 24 hours after the gallery goes live. If you’d rather have an actual photo, prints start at a very reasonable £5.75 for a 6x4 print. We’ll have some photos on the site over the next few days, so pop back later!

Hope to see many of you again next year, but don’t forget our next races – entries are open for the Alan Green Memorial 10 mile race on 6th December and will be open soon for the Mountain Bike Duathlon on 17th January. We have also set the date for our pre-spring marathon Thanet 20 mile race – that will return on the 6th March, with a new course comprising two 10 mile loops.

Although a huge number of TRACcies helped behind the scenes, 11 club members turned out in their club vests – Andy Stevens was top placed in the half in a very impressive 6th place in 1.26.54, as he revisited the venue of his very first race 10 years ago! Bradley Cameron (3.16) was first TRACcie back for the second year running in 15th, pipping veteran Dave Winch. Full TRAC results below:
