Kent Coastal Marathon and Half-Marathon
Kent Coastal Marathon and Half-Marathon 2011 (4th Sep 2011)
Location: The Oval, Eastern Esplanade, Cliftonville
Start time: 9.30
Host: Thanet Roadrunners AC
Well the rain held off for most of the day, which with the wind made conditions a bit more testing than ideal, although at least the race wasn’t yesterday!

Congratulations to all runners today, and big thanks to all race organisers, marshals and of course our race sponsors and supporters - Foster’s Law; Thanet District Council; Booker Cash and Carry; Sweatshop Maidstone; TMS Property Services; D J Ellis Construction Ltd.; Hornby, Margate; Bannatyne's Health Club, Broadstairs; Thanet Constabulary; RAYNET; The Margate Ambulance services; and local scout groups - without which Thanet Roadrunners would not be able to host Kent’s only road marathon. Please could all runners rate the race and leave and comments on Runners World – it helps us and also any prospective runners in the future. This year, as before, we attracted runners from all over the world.
Onto the results – there were 249 finishers in the half marathon. Congratulations to Phil Anthony who won the half marathon in 70.22, an incredible eight and a half minutes clear of former Thanet resident, Tamar Trotters’ Pete Waumsley, with Declan Mullins 3rd in 82.41. Claire Fisher of Paddock Wood AC led the ladies home in 1.37.49, just ahead of Heather Fisher in 1.38.12, with Helen Bellerby-Brown of Ashford Tri in 3rd with 1.46.19. Heather helped Dudley Kingswinford to claim the team prize, while Maidstone Harriers claimed the men’s team trophy.
Full details in the links below, but are also available on the race page.
As for the marathon, we had 240 finishers in all categories. A big well done to Jason Cherriman of Orpington Road Runners who won in 2.47.54, ahead of team mate Steven Nimmo with 2.50.13, with Fabrice Klein seven minutes back in third. With the fourth placed finisher as well, Orpington Road Runners stormed to the men’s team prize. Larkfield AC’s Sarah Mooney claimed the ladies’ title, with 3.18.37, a minute ahead on Jay Hairsine with Pat Rich two and a half minutes back in third. Maidstone Harriers completed the team double by winning the ladies’ team competition.
