Kent Fitness League 2011-12
The cross country season is now upon us, and here are the fixtures for the 2011-12 Kent Fitness League.
Elite runners are not allowed in the Kent Fitness League. There are a set of standards in place and if someone is consistently quicker, then they can run but not score. These are defined as 34mins for 10k for Men and 38mins for Women.
Do please make every effort to turn out for the Club, even if you cannot make every race. The team can be of any size but only the first 10 of each team score. Each team must consist of 3 women and 7 men and have at least 1 vet 40 male, 1 vet 50 male and 1 vet 35 female.
All entry costs (£2.00 per person per event) will be covered by the club.
Please contact the team captains, Steve Clarke or Sarah Harmes for further details and lift arrangements.

Kent Fitness League 2011-12 - End of Season Relay & Awards (11th Mar 2012)
Location: Nurstead Court, Nurstead, Meopham
Start time: 11.00
Sunday 11th March saw the final 2011-12 Kent Fitness League Race of the season being hosted by Gravesend and Northfleet Running Club at the picturesque setting of Nurstead Court in Meopham. The morning was dry and sunny. The final event was a relay event with teams consisting of 5 runners one of which had to be a female. The 2 lap 4 km course was undulating but firm underfoot. There were 30 teams representing 13 clubs taking part on the day which was disappointing as there were 18 clubs represented in the League throughout the season. On the day there were Official Teams which consisted of 5 runners one of which had at least one female in. Un-official teams which were teams with no females in and Informal Teams which were runners from different clubs which
made up teams to ensure everyone got a run. Teams could consist of men, ladies or juniors.
Thanet Roadrunners AC field one team which unfortunately fell into the Un-Official team as the club failed to have single female runner turn up on the day. What was even more disappointing was that for a club the size of TRAC the only team we fielded consisted of all juniors, with the only senior runner that attend to race being John Cooper (18:34) who ended up running for Gravesend and Northfleet 3rd team. The only other TRAC senior there was the juniors coach Gary Gillatt. This was
the second year running that TRAC have failed to send senior teams to the relays which is disappointing for the juniors not to be supported by the seniors at the league presentations.
The first leg for the Thanet Team was run by Oliver Cooper who led the race for the first lap of his leg and finished his leg in 2nd place in an excellent time of 16:20 with only the Thanet 20's first lady Mel
Fraser from Gravesend beating him home. The second leg was run by Jon Hart who ran well in a time of 20:45, over a distance that was longer than he is used to running. Bobby Harrop ran the 3rd leg again in another excellent time of 16:25. The 4th Leg was run by Hughie Coleman who also ran well recording another great time of 17:29, with the 5th and final leg being run by Alex Kavanagh who recorded a brilliant time of 15:48 to be TRAC's fastest runner on the day. The Thanet juniors
finished in a total time of 86:47 and were 12th team to finish on the day over what was a testing course. All 5 boys ran superbly well and TRAC should be proud at the way they performed and represented the club throughout the season.
The relays were followed by the presentations of the awards for both the Junior and Senior for the League Season. TRAC collected awards with Alex Kavanagh winning the under 13 boys’ championship for the second year running having won all his races this season. Oliver Cooper finished second in the under 16 boys championship to Swanley & District’s James Graves. There were also achievement awards those TRAC juniors that competed in 3 races throughout the league season - Rebecca Hales, Beth Williams and Maddie Stirk, all in the U13 girls.
Well done to all the Juniors that took part.
