Mountain Bike Duathlon 2015 (11th Jan 2015)
Location: Minnis Bay, Birchington, Kent
Start time: 10:30
Many congratulations to all the runners and riders in Sunday’s John Flitch Mountain Bike Duathlon. Thanet’s toughest race certainly lived up to its billing, with the mud and full dykes proving particularly challenging, although it was a beautiful clear sunny morning, if a little windy! Thanks to race director, Phil Kinnill and the team, and all the hardy marshals who braved the conditions.
Full provisional results are on the following link – http://identisports-results.co.uk/2015/minnisbay/g-live.html?f=minnisbayduathlon.clax. Any problems, please mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
There was a real ding dong battle for the first place prize money, with Jason Paton-Smith finished just 13 seconds clear of Graeme Blair in 1hr 37. TRAC’s Chris Brenchley picked up third place six minutes back. Claire Hitchings of 7Oaks Tri was the first of two ladies to complete, finishing 4th overall in 1hr 45. Wendy Bradley completed the female turn out. There were 42 individual finishers, with four pulling out.
Coleman and Dawkins from Deal Tri were the first of 10 teams of two home, in 1hr 34, while Lewis, Kevin and Ross Perkins was the only team of three, completing the course in 1hr 54. There was one team of ladies - Aspital and Petersman from Ashford Tri getting round in 2hrs 3mins.
As well as Chris Brenchley, Spencer Hoult also completed the individual race in 2hrs 13 in a Thanet Roadrunners vest, while Nick Lever failed to finish. And John Dickerson teamed up with Mr Humphries to finish 6th in the two man team event.
Very well done to everyone who took part, and thanks to our race supporters - TMS Property Services, RAYNET, the Margate Ambulance services, and our race HQ venue, Minnis Bay Sailing Club. The official race photos will shortly be available for all to see and purchase - please visit Grant Burton’s website for more details. Many thanks to Grant and also to Brian Brenchley for the photos.
Hope to see many of you again next year, or at one of our other races later in the year! Entries are open for the return of the Thanet 20 mile on 1st March, ideal for your spring marathon training, and our popular beach race, the Harbour Wallbanger on 23rd May. Stay tuned for details of our marathon and half marathon later in the year.
