Start the New Year with a real test to blow away the holiday cobwebs! The John Flitch Memorial Duathon is on Sunday 15th January 2017 at 10:30am.
Approximately 2.5 Mile Road Run – 6 Mile Cross Country mountain/cycle bike ride – 4.5 Mile Cross Country Run. For each entry, we will make a donation to (Charity to be confirmed).
Please note: NO HEADPHONES may be worn during the event by competitors. Please do not enter the race and then decide to use headphones – you may be disqualified.
A helmet must be worn during the bike leg – no helmet, no race. Cyclecross or mountain bikes can be used.
There are limited changing and shower facilities at race GQ. The council have asked us to remind all athletes not to rinse muddy kit in the sink of the public toilets in the Minnis Bay car park as they will block the drains.
Minimum age 16 for all race entrants.
All finishers receive a goody bag and momento, and there will also be awards for 1st, 2nd & 3rd male and female; 1st Male V40, V50, V60, V70; 1st Female V35, V45, V55, LV65. Presentations will take place as soon as possible after the after the race at 12.30pm.
The race includes chip timing and bike racks in the transition area. The race HQ is based at Minnis Bay Sailing Club, with limited use of shower and changing facilities. The bar and kitchen will also be open for supporters.

* The myriad of helpers and marshals: who all give up their time voluntarily to ensure all goes smoothly. Please be nice to them out on the route – without them you would not have a race. Any runner who is rude to a marshal will be barred from future races.

The course has been measured by an Ordnance Survey map and distances are approximate. It is a mainly flat, but challenging course over farmland, farm roads and some seaside promenade The course follows most of last year's route. Please ensure you cross the timing mats, or your race time will not be recorded. Depending in the weather, it can be very muddy and wet!
1st section: Road run - 2.5 miles on the promenade
2nd section: 6 miles on the bike - HELMETS MUST BE WORN, NO HELMET NO RACE - After mildly flat grass for one mile, you will come onto the farmland part of the course. This will be one lap. You must dismount and run with your bike to the changeover area. Teams will change over at the end of this area. Note that road bikes are not suitable for this course.
3rd section: cross country run- 4.5 miles, this will be a shorter route than the bike section, but with a little variation of the ditches, dykes and small hills. This is one lap only.

* Team of two to have one runner and one cyclist only; Teams of three do one event each. Team entrants please complete one entry form for each team member.
Entries to: Thanet Duathlon, 6 Wayne Close, St Peters, Broadstairs, Kent, CT10 2SX. Please ensure that full postage is affixed, do not staple your cheque and remember to include a stamped self-addressed C5 envelope for return of your race pack. Online entries can be made via Runners World at www.runnersworld.co.uk.
The race will be chip timed. Please collect your chip from race HQ (Minnis Bay Sailing Club, Birchington, CT7 9QP) between 8.30 and 10.00 on race day. Results will be available on the chip website.
Race packs including numbers will be sent out approximately two weeks before the event. If your cheque is cashed, you have been entered successfully.
The race information packs will contain information for all runners, which is also available on the website. If you do not receive your number in your race pack, then this means that you either have additional fees to pay or there is some other query with your entry.
Please give yourself plenty of time to collect your timing chip and race number if necessary from Race HQ (Minnis Bay Sailing club - in the car park) on the morning of the race. There is plenty of local parking available within a few minutes’ walk of HQ.
