North Downs Run 30k 2014 (22nd Jun 2014)

Fourteen Thanet Roadrunners took part in the gruelling North Downs Run on Sunday 22^nd June 2014. The North Downs Run passes through some of the finest scenery yet demanding terrain for runners to have to deal with several relentless climbs.  There were some great performances from the Roadrunners, with Chris Brenchley finishing in the top 50 out of a finishing field of over 546 runners.  

Chris Brenchley Said, ‘I really enjoyed running the first 10k then hit some steep sections which I attacked hard.  I enjoyed the fantastic scenery whilst overtaking runners, jumping stiles and rushing through the fields. As with all long races it was hard maintaining the pace until the end, but I came in a minute under 2 hours 30 minutes so am well pleased.’

Steve Clarke, Chairman of Thanet Roadrunners AC said, ‘It is probably the most scenic race in Kent. There were lots of wooded sections with some awesome views on top of the north Kent downs.  Apart from a few miles in the middle one would be either going uphill or down.  I personally smashed it with a time of 3 hours dead which I have not done since 1987!!! 15 - 20 minutes better that I would have hoped for.’
