Punchbowl Marathon 2012 (12th Feb 2012)

Whilst Sunday 12th February saw the cancellation of the Deal 1/2 Marathon, the Punchbowl Marathon (30miles) went ahead in Surrey. The race, organised by the Surrey LDWA, started and finished at the Chichester Hall, Whitley, and had two distances 20 miles and 30 miles. Peter Johnson and John Cooper made the trip and both competed in the 30 mile distance. The course was very scenic over the Surrey Downs which were largely covered in snow and ice which did make the hills slippery underfoot. Despite this John Cooper completed the course in 6hrs 15 mins and Peter Johnson in 6 hrs 19 mins.

John is the first to admit that had it not have been for Peter he would not have PB'D by 27 mins on last year’s time. It was Peter’s superior experience in Ultra distance running and LDWA events that spurred John on. John and Peter finished together the only reason their times were different is because Peter started 4 minutes earlier following a misunderstanding between them at the start.
