The weather was glorious, with a slight wind and bright sun, for the hardy band of Quicksand runners, who tackled sand, stones, seaweed, chalks and steps this morning.
Congratulations to all runners today, and big thanks to all race organisers, and all the marshals, many of whom gave up another Sunday just a fortnight after the Marathon, and saw to a another successful and well-received Thanet race. Please could all runners rate the race and leave and comments on Runners World – it helps us and also any prospective runners in the future.
There were 53 finishers - congratulations to Hastings’ Dan Wood, who triumphed in 1.39.34. Dan finished eight minutes ahead of Larkfield’s Steven Groom, who was runner-up for the second year running, but did get the better of last year’s winner Simon Parrin from Istead and Ifield Harriers. Sevenoaks AC’s Heather Fitzmaurice went one place better than last year to be first lady home this time round, with 1.55.09, while runner-up Clare Mullenger (Wimbledon Windmilers) followed up her pole position in July’s Wallbanger. Angela Neall was the third lady home. Istead and Ifield, with the 3rd, 4th and 5th placed finishers, again claimed the men’s team trophy.

For TRAC involvement, ten club members ran, with yours truly picking up the award for first club runner home – that won’t happen very often……

Once again, well done to everyone, and huge thanks to Phil Kinnill and the team for putting on the race. Unfortunately, due to the low turn-out, it’s possible that this race will not be repeated next year, at least in this format. However, do keep an eye open!
