South of England Cross Country Championships 2012 (28th Jan 2012)

Location: Stanmer Park, Brighton

Host: SEAA

A group of five TRAC Junior Boys took part in the Saucony South of England Cross Country Championships on Saturday 28th January 2012.  With the event held in Brighton this year, instead of at Parliament Hill, a very early start was needed for those of us travelling down on the day.  The others, who had stayed overnight in local hotels with their parents, had the luxury of a more leisurely preparation for the first race at 11:00.

The course, at Stanmer Park, was a challenging one, featuring a couple of steep hills and some very muddy stretches.  The weather was dry and clear, with the temperature recorded as 4°C by one of the many gadgets Oliver Cooper brought along!

For most of the TRAC boys, this was their first experience of using timing chips, as well as of being lined up in starting pens amidst a huge field of runners.

The full finishing positions and race times of the Thanet Roadrunners AC competitors were as follows:

11:00am  U15 Boys’ 4500m

Bobby Harrop            169th   18:24

Oliver Cooper            189th   19:13

11:35am  U13 Boys’ 3000m

Caine Moir                   83rd   11:43

Alfie Grafton               163rd   12:49

12:10pm  U17 Mens’ 6000m
