Rick

The odds against you getting in on the general ballot seem to be getting harder and harder. The last time I ran London in 2012 I only got in because I had failed four times in a row on the ballot and that was at the time they were guaranteeing you a place on your fifth attempt. Apparently they had to stop doing that because they were running out of other spaces to make available.

Halstead in Essex is a popular one, John - two laps of a figure of 8, but it is stretching into May. I'd happily do it again, at some point...

Bewl Water Marathon in early May is a cracker.  It's not one to do for a time.  It's a two lap trail marathon and tough but really well organised.

having looked into this Bill, it seems my average finish time is smack bang at the peak of average finish time! so if as stated they have a percentage in ballot for each time, anyone between 4 and 5 hours finish are going to have less than the one in 7 chance more like 1 in 15 i guess,...
....now if someone stated a finish time of 5hrs 20 mins.... hmm i wonder?

Ah, now that is interesting Rick. It sounds like they run a "loaded" ballot as opposed to a true ballot. I suppose it is in their best interests to make sure for commercial purposes that the usual quota of fancy dress, huge rhinos etc get in, but I would have thought that they would nearly all be running for one of the charities anyway. It seems a bit silly to me as I would have thought that by the law of averages a true ballot would have had a good mix of finishing times. Maybe the idea of sticking down a slower time than you expect might work. I must say that running London has been one of the highlights of my running, it is an atmosphere that is difficult to describe to anybody who hasn't done it.
