Races / Charity places - Oasis Domestic Abuse Refuge and Service
« Last post by Ed Heardman on May 23, 2013, 06:17:09 PM »
Please read on for details of charity running events - thanks, Ed….

Oasis Domestic Abuse Refuge and Service are a Thanet based charity, looking for runners willing to help raise the vital funds we need.
Every week two women die from Domestic Abuse. At Oasis we help rehabilitate women and children who have survived Domestic Abuse. We provide mentoring schemes to help educate teenagers to prevent negative relationships developing, as well as specialist support for families affected by Domestic Abuse, enabling women to regain independence and confidence.
70% of our residents are children. It is important, therefore, to emphasise that the specialist work we do to combat the long lasting psychological trauma Domestic Abuse causes children.
We currently have 3 people doing the Great British 10 K July 14th but more are welcome to join the team.
Also there is the Deal Dinosaur Race 10km July 21st and the Ashford PodPlus 3 Lakes 5k June 23rd.
We are also looking for a group of people for the Fowlmead Country Park Assault Course Race  Oct 6th
If any of your members would like to sign up for these events on our behalf, please ask them to contact me for more information about booking and our sponsorship pack at hazel@oasiswomensrefuge.org.
Kind Regards
Hazel Eddy, Fundraising Assistant

Races / Years 3-6 Track & Field series R1
« Last post by Steve King on May 09, 2013, 07:42:58 AM »
The first round of the Thanet AC U11 open series takes place this Friday, 10th May 2013.  This is for children in school years 3 to 6 and many of our own TRAC Juniors will be taking part.  Venue is the Marlowe Academy track and full details are here:  http://www.thanetac.co.uk/news/2013-04-thanet-under-11-open-competition-series-20

On-the-day entries are also available but the event must start promptly at 18:00.  So, if you are entering on the day, please get there early to register.

On a technical note:  The Vortex mega-howler throw will be a standing throw (no run up allowed) at every round of the competition this year. (Sorry, Jon!)  Although not my preferred option, it does at least mean that performances will be comparable throughout the season with standardised rules from month to month.

Hope to see as many of you as possible there!

Races / Kent Track & Field Championships
« Last post by Steve King on May 02, 2013, 08:26:37 PM »
The closing date for entries for the Kent Track & Field Championships is next Monday, 6th May 2013.  Entries can be made online this year.  Full details are at: http://www.kcaa.org.uk/county%20t&f%20champs.htm

This event takes place at the Julie Rose Stadium, Ashford over the weekend of Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th May 2013.  As far as TRAC is concerned, this will be of interest mainly to U15 and U17 athletes, although there are also U20 and Senior categories.

Please note that UK Athletics age groups for this season depend upon how old you are at midnight on 31st August 2013.

If you will be aged 13 or 14, you are an U15 athlete for the 2013 track season.
If you will be aged 15 or 16, you are an U17 athlete for the 2013 track season.

Parents of younger athletes should note that the U13 Kent Championship is held alongside the Veterans and Multi-Events championships in September at Erith. (U13 athletes are those who will be aged 11 or 12 on 31st August.)

Races / Thanet Schools' Athletics Championships
« Last post by Steve King on April 30, 2013, 07:30:56 AM »
The date of the Thanet Schools' U13 and U15 Athletics Championships - originally scheduled for Thursday 9th May 2013 - has been changed.  This is the district inter-school championship, for pupils in years 7 to 10 and is held at the Marlowe Academy track.

The revised date is Wednesday 3rd July 2013.  Although this obviously gives young athletes more time to prepare, the event can obviously no longer be used as a qualifier for the Kent Schools' Championships (Ashford; Saturday 8th June 2013.)

Entries to both the district and county championships are made by individual schools' Games / PE departments.
