INAUGURAL 1066 RELAY SUNDAY 8TH MAY
There is still time to enter the 1066 Relay; a five stage off-road team relay organised by Hastings Runners following William the Conqueror's historic 1066 Country Walk route. Starting in the grounds of Pevensey Castle in East Sussex, one of Britain's oldest fortresses, the 33.30 mile race goes past such iconic landmarks as Herstmonceux Castle and Battle Abbey before a fast, flat finish along the National Cycle Network Route 2 track into the charming and historic town of Rye. Stages vary from 3.20 to 11.13 miles in distance, and it is hoped that up to 60 teams from all over the South East will take part. There is also a community feel to the race, with events taking place at Battle and Rye; those runners doing Stages 2 and 5 will be called across the finishing line in Battle and Rye respectively by town criers! 50% of race proceeds will be going to local charities.
