Kent Secondary Schools' Cross Country

Nine members of Thanet Roadrunners AC competed at the rearranged Kent Secondary Schools’ Cross Country Championships at Danson Park, Bexleyheath on Saturday 2nd February 2013.

Recent rain, following the snow which had caused the postponement two weeks previously, meant that runners faced ankle-deep mud on some sections of the course. With long, challenging hills and a chilly wind too, it all added up to proper cross country conditions!

In the Year 7 Boys’ race, over 3340m, Alex Kavanagh finished second in 12:29. Henry Swandale – running for Canterbury & St Augustines district – was 45th in 14:43.

The Junior Girls (Years 8 and 9) raced over the same distance, with Emily Bond tenth in 13:25, Beatrice Lever 36th in 14:54, and Kealy Goldsmith 40th in 15:10.

The Junior Boys’ race (Years 8 and 9) saw Billy Harrop come 16th in 16:30. Mikey Howarth, meanwhile, was 76th, completing the 4280m in 20:09. Bobby Harrop finished 34th in the Intermediate Boys’ (Years 10 & 11) race in 21:33, with Oliver Cooper covering the 5390m in 22:38 for 46th place.
