Thanet 20 - race results

Congratulations to all runners in today’s Thanet 20. I’m not sure what the yellow circle was in the blue sky, but coupled with only a light breeze, it made for very different running conditions than we’ve tolerated recently.

Big thanks to all race organisers, marshals and of course our race sponsors and supporters - Investaco; Thanet District Council; Sweatshop Maidstone; Thanet Constabulary; RAYNET; The Margate Ambulance services; the Baypoint Club and local scout groups - without whose help Thanet Roadrunners would not be able to host the race. Please could all runners rate the race and leave and comments on Runners World – it helps us and also any prospective runners in the future. As always, we’ll also be making a donation from the races proceeds to a local charity – race director Andy Carter will be handing a cheque to the QEQM’s League of Friends in due course.

The provisional results are on the following link - http://www.iekchiptiming.com/results/Thanet+20-r185.html.

There were 284 finishers - very well done to last year’s runner-up Tom Collins of Medway and Maidstone, who went one better to claim first place this year in 1hr 53mins 36 secs, four minutes ahead of Dan Watt of Tunbridge Wells Harriers. Folkestone’s David Weekes was another four minutes back in third. Maidstone’s Sharon Hawkins was first female back in 2.21.49, two and a half minutes ahead of runner up Faye Roberts from Canterbury Harriers. Dartford Road Runner’s Sally Kyle was another three minutes away in third.

Race photos will be on Jodi Hanagan’s website shortly – http://www.jodihanaganphotography.com/p517317535. Don’t forget the 10% discount on any digital downloads and prints of the Thanet 20 if you like her facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Photography-by-Jodi/562802897079479. The code will be on her page on race day only - simply enter the code when purchasing on the website.

Thirteen club members completed the race, led home by David Hall in 2.24. Helen Spain was first TRAC Lady home in 2.54. Nick Lever, Spencer Hoult and Bill Wright all set new personal bests. Let me know of any other such achievements!

After two years at the helm, Andy Carter is stepping down as race director – many thanks to him for pulling the team together to bring back the popular spring marathon preparation race after it had a year off. As always, we’re looking for volunteers to be involved behind the scenes in organising next year’s event. There are lots of jobs to do, so please do get in touch if you can help out at all, or to find out what is involved. The more helpers we have the easier it is for everyone!

Next up on the Thanet race horizon is the Harbour Wallbanger on 13th July, a 7k-ish beach run from Broadstairs to Ramsgate and back again. And if you fancy a bit longer than today’s 20 miles, the Fosters Law Kent Coastal Marathon returns on 1st September. If 26.2miles is too far, you can always tackling the half marathon instead. Entries are being taken for both races – full details are on the links - so hope to see you back on the Thanet coast later in the year.
