Kent Association for the Blind Chosen as Recipient Charity for the Fosters Law Kent Coastal Marathon

The Kent Association for the Blind has been chosen as the recipient charity for the Fosters Law Kent Coastal Marathon and Half Marathon to be held on Sunday 1st September 2013.  The prestigious event, organised by Thanet Roadrunners Athletics Club will see 700 runners compete in a challenging but very scenic coastal route across the beautiful coastline of Thanet.

£1 from every entry will be donated to The Kent Association for the Blind who support sight impaired people so that they can live independent lives. The charity is a major provider of help and support for blind and partially-sighted people throughout Kent, with over 12,000 people using their services. They work with adults, children, people with learning disabilities, people who are deafblind or have other multiple disabilities.

As well as emotional support, KAB provides sight impairment registration, assessment of individual needs, advice on benefits and concessions, help with low vision aids, and advice on special equipment and minor adaptations. Training and advice is provided to assist independent living, to help mobility, communication, computer skills, returning to the workplace, and leisure and hobbies. KAB also run courses on cooking and daily living skills, and also produce a free regional news service, Kent Talking News, which is distributed to 1,000 households in Kent.

Debbie Hatt, Race Director for the Thanet Marathon said, ‘Every year the club votes for a local charity to support.  This year we are pleased to choose the Kent Association for the Blind.  The charity does an incredible amount of good for blind and partially-sighted people throughout Kent and we are pleased to support them’.

Chrissie Keeley, Community and Events Fundraiser for the Kent Association for the Blind said, ‘We are delighted that Thanet Roadrunners has chosen to support KAB.  The Kent Coastal Marathon is a great event and we together with many of the local community are looking forward to it.  The support from local groups is invaluable to us in both helping us to raise funds as well as letting people know about the services we offer – we are thrilled to be working with Thanet Roadrunners’.
