Fosters Law Kent Coastal Marathon and Half - RESULTS

Many congratulations to all the runners in today’s Fosters Law Kent Coastal Marathon and Half Marathon, and big thanks to all race organisers, marshals and of course our race sponsors and supporters - Fosters Law; Thanet District Council; Asics; Sweatshop Maidstone; High5; Thanet Constabulary; RAYNET; The Margate Ambulance services; and local scout groups - without which Thanet Roadrunners would not be able to host Kent’s only road marathon. Please could all runners rate the race and leave and comments on Runners World (marathon & half marathon) – it helps us and also any prospective runners in the future.

The conditions could not have been much better, not too hot or sunny, and we had a few notable runners this year; blind multi-marathon runner Paul Watts returned to us once again, very fitting with our main race charity the Kent Association for the Blind. We also had TV presenter Kaddy Lee-Preston continue training for her trek to Kilimanjaro later this year by tackling our half marathon, David Drozdziak who is aiming for 52 half marathons this year raising money for Basic Foundations, and with the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who this year, Emma Woolerton completed 10 of 11 races dressed as the 11th Doctor for Marillac hospice care!

Onto the results – there were 344 finishers in the half marathon. Congratulations to Robert Knight (unattached) who won the half marathon in 1.20.08, a minute clear of Jamie Smalley of Serpentine RC (1.21.06), with Liz Weeks from Sittingbourne Striders (1.22.01) doing the girls proud another minute back in 3rd overall. The third male finisher was Thomas Newman in 1.23.15. London Heathside’s Elspeth Storrar (1.31.13) was female runner-up for the second consecutive year, a minute ahead of Sarah-Anne Mooney of Larkfield AC (1.32.22).

In the marathon, we had 220 finishers, and both male and female winners were well over clear of the pack, by an impressive 10 minutes. Daniel Watt of Tunbridge Wells Harriers claimed the win, finishing in 2.45.47, ahead of second placed Stuart Wright (unattached, 2.56.21). Stuart pipped last year’s winner Riel Carol (unattached) who was over two minutes quicker than last year, but found this year’s field too hot to handle!  Heather Fisher had a successful trip down from Sheffield to claim the ladies’ prize in 3.22.12, with Sheen Shufflers’ Cathryn Simpson second in 3.32.45 and Sarah Maguire of Canterbury Harriers in third with 3.34.10.

Full results are on the Chip Timing UK links - half marathon & full marathon. Let us know of any issues.

Hope to see many of you again next year, but don’t forget our next races, the Alan Green Memorial 10 mile race on 1st December and our Mountain Bike Duathlon on 12th Jan.

For TRAC involvement, eleven club members ran the half marathon...

Official race photos will be available shortly to view and download (http://www.jodihanaganphotography.com). Jodi is again offering the chance to win a digital download - all you need to do is like her facebook page. I’ll also add some photos to the site throughout the week as they come in, so do please pop back! The above photos shows first TRAC finishers for the half marathon Adie Waters and full marathon Andy Stevens at North Foreland - thanks to Grant Burton.

I’ll have more on the club championships and Kent Grand Prix in due course.
