TRAC at the London Duathlon 2013

Several Thanet Roadrunners took part in the London Duathlon on Sunday 15th September including Sara Sutton, Roy Barden and Ian Lockyer. The Duathlon is the largest in the world and was sold out before race day. The event is held in Richmond Park London. There were four distances to choose from and five races as one could be run as a team relay.

Roy choose the Ultra event with distances of  20km Run, 77km Bike ride and a further 10km Run.

Roy said, 'On a hilly 2 lap course I started well and completed the first run in my predicted time. The bike leg consisted of 7 laps of which you had to count yourself, to add to the confusion cyclist from the shorter distances were now on the course. After 2 laps I began to suffer from back pain and the weather was turning for the worst.'

'I was hoping that my back problem would improve once I left the bike in transition and headed out for the final run, this was not to be and I struggled during the run. I have been given a provisional finishing time of 6 hours 13 minutes. I had a target time of 5 hours 30 minutes but having not competed in an event like this before, it was a case of the unknown.'

He added, 'The event is staged in a wonderful traffic free location and was very well organised. The marshals and support were fantastic in what was very bad weather towards the end of the race. I'm pleased that I completed the race, and would recommend it.'
