TRAC Juniors Win for Fun at Deal

Three young Thanet Roadrunners AC members warmed up for next week’s Kent Fitness League cross country fixture by taking in a junior 1000m fun run – held by the Deal Tri club in support of their annual Deal 5-mile race on Sunday.

Thankfully, the heavy rain, which has blighted this fixture so often in the past, stayed away, although runners did have to battle a fierce crosswind throughout.

Alex Kavanagh (in a speedy 3:20) and Rebecca Hales (3:55), both twelve, led the way for TRAC as the first boy and girl overall, in a race open to all-comers up to age fourteen.  Robyn Shears, a year younger, but running in the same 11-12 category, finished close behind in 4:12.

This year’s race doubled as a fundraiser for Kent Air Ambulance, following the death, in September, of young cyclist Daniel Squire.  Eighteen-year-old Daniel was hit by a van on the A258 at Ringwould en route to meet up with fellow Deal Tri members.
