2013 Alan Green Memorial 10 Mile Race – RESULTS

Another crisp winter’s morning, albeit with the customary coastal breeze, greeted this morning’s Alan Green Memorial 10 mile race. Many congratulations to all today’s runners, and huge thanks to all our supporters for their continuing backing of our events – Sweatshop Bluewater, Tesco, Thanet District Council, Margate Ambulance, RAYNET, Thanet Constabulary – and to all our marshals and drinks station attendants. Without this help, the race would not be able to go ahead, and we are also pleased to be able to donate at least £1 from each entry to the Oasis Women’s Refuge, our charity for this year’s race.

Official race photographer Grant Burton was out and about snapping away – you’ll be able to download or order prints directly from his website (http://www.grantburtonphotography.co.uk/) shortly, and we’ll have a few tasters on the site in due course. In the meantime, there are a few other photos of the presentations from Nigel Ross-Hunt on the race page.

Please could all runners rate the race and if they wish leave any comments on Runners World – it helps us and also any prospective runners in the future.

We had 286 finishers, a bit up on last year - full provisional results are from Chip Timing UK. Anthony Jackson of Sittingbourne Striders made in three wins in three years when finishing in 55.23, almost 2 minutes clear of Maidstone Harriers’ Tim Erskine. It was a Maidstone 2-3 as Stephen Wenk completed the podium places another 30 seconds back. Gravesend Roadrunners’ Claire Gaskill was the first lady home in 68.44, almost a minute ahead of last year’s runner up Sarah Mooney from Larkfield. Penny Holden from Maidstone Harriers was 3rd with 70.26.

The Maidstone team did get the better of Sittingbourne in claiming the men’s team prize, with the first three Thanet chaps back in third. The same clubs filled the top three places in the ladies’ team race, with Maidstone ahead of the home team and Sittingbourne placing third.  Full team standing and age group results are on the race page.

Hope to see many of you again next year, if not at one of our other races! Next up is the Mountain Bike Duathlon on 12th January, before the Wallbanger sometime in July and the marathon and half next autumn – more on dates for those races soon.

We had a big showing from club members, even with many working behind the scenes. In all, 35 ran, with several first timers, including Joanne and Jonathan Holl, Amanda Nicholls and Shaun Mason. Probably we had a fair number of new bests – let us know any specifics at webmaster@thanetroadrunners.org.uk. Full TRAC results below:
