Athletic Success Celebrated at Thanet Roadrunners AC Presentation Night

Over 60 club members attended the Thanet Roadrunners AC Awards & Presentation Night held on Friday 7th February 2014 at Margate Football Club.  The evening is an important event in the club’s calendar where members formally celebrate achievements by handing championship and club awards.

26 awards were given  out for the clubs Championships, based on the accumulation of points attained from running in Kent Grand Prix races throughout the year.  Notable distinction were be given to Pam Philpot and Christopher Brenchley who both won two championship categories.

Pam Philpot said,’ I am absolutely delighted to receive these awards.  I don’t see myself as a natural athlete and to win two awards is just amazing.  It just proves that anything is achievable.’

Christopher Brenchley, ‘Receiving these awards has been a great end to a year in road running. I have excelled in most distances this year and managed 7th overall in the kent grand prix road running league where the competition is of a very high level, and thus helped our club's position in the league. Its been great fun to run representing Thanet roadrunners AC both as a running club and promoting the area.  Thanks to all of Thanet Roadrunners for the training making it all possible to collect these two awards.’
The club also made two further special awards for services to the club.  Debbie Hatt was given the Chairman’s award (see picture on the right) for her work as Race Director of the Fosters Law Thanet Marathon & Half Marathon.  Ian Lockyer, the clubs Press Officer won the secretary’s award for promotion of the club.

Debbie Hatt said, ‘Receiving my Chairman’s award was a huge surprise to me.  I had absolutely no idea I was receiving this and it was totally unexpected.  I couldn’t have carried out the job of Race Director for the marathon and half last year if it wasn’t for the fabulous team that helped me beforehand, during and after.  Yes, we had a couple of incidents to deal with but I always had the support and backing of the team and committee so never felt I was doing this job singlehandedly.  I am hoping for another successful race for 2014!  It is however always nice to know your efforts are appreciated by your fellow club members and I hope this inspires more people to step up and help run our great club.’

Mark Perkins said, ‘our presentation night is the culmination of a year’s hard training.  It is a great social event for everyone to let their hair down and celebrate the clubs athletic achievements.’
