TRAC Junior Girls in Form

Three girls from Thanet Roadrunners AC competed at the Southern U13 Inter-Counties track and field fixture on Sunday 27th July 2014. Hosted by the Surrey Athletics Association at the Kingsmeadow Stadium, fourteen counties took part on an extremely hot afternoon.

Beth Williams represented Kent in the 800m A String race, earning a new PB time of 2:28.52, which now sees her ranked 43rd U13 in the UK. Rebecca Hales and Brooke O’Hare ran in the non-scoring race over the same distance and finished in 2:44.99 and 2:46.00 respectively.

Rebecca had earlier shown her versatility by also running in the non-scoring 100m race, crossing the line in 14.93s, a new PB over the sprint distance.

We have a very promising group of U13 girls at present – Amy Piper and Sommer Ansley were 1st and 2nd at the Palm Bay Race for Life last week – and several of them will represent TRAC at two major track events before attention switches to cross country.

The Kent U13 Championships takes place at the Norman Park track in Bromley over the weekend of 14th / 15th September. (Athletes must be U13 according to UKA Rule 107 – aged either 11 or 12 at midnight on 31st August 2014.)

The following week, the Kent Track Relays are held at Canterbury on Sunday 21st September, with races for all age groups. Letters about both events will be given to eligible juniors at the Thursday 31st July track session and at the Monday and Tuesday sessions next week. They will also be posted on the website shortly.
