SVN Beerathon

Congratulations to Mark Foster and Simon Watkins on a sterling effort at the Saxons, Vikings and Normans Marathons and Challenges Beerathon which took place this Saturday.

This ultra event was held at Ranscombe Farm Nature Reserve in Rochester and consists of a 3.75 mile loop and an 8 hour cut-off time. At the start, a bottle of beer is consumed and then a cup of beer every lap thereafter.

In what was Simons first ultra the guys managed over 7 hours and 8 laps totaling 30 miles. Excellent effort and good drinking!

They were 'supported' by the more than experienced crew of Marks wife Sharon.

Recovery is key after an event of this nature so the guys retired to the hot tub for some more beer! And well deserved too!

During a chat with Mark at this evenings club run he informed me that after the 'very short' Wingham 10k the Beerathon was just what he needed. He went on to tell me that the event was right up his street. It was long and off road. All it needed was some rain and snow and it would have been perfect. I just nodded and agreed!

Only 4 runners achieved a further distance than Mark and Simon which is a fantastic effort. Full results can be found here.

Well done chaps and we wish Simon many more 'happy' ultras.
