Moonlight Challenge - The Most fun you can have with your clothes on!

Pam Philpot and Bob Wild of Thanet Roadrunners have successfully completed one of the toughest races in Kent.  The pair together with 2 relay teams from Thanet Roadrunners completed the Moonlight Challenge ultra marathon on Saturday 15th February. The challenge involved the pair of them running 32.75 miles in tough, muddy, slippery conditions around Marshside, just outside Herne Bay....all in the moonlight.

Pam Philpot (shown in the picture on the right with fellow club runner, Helen Langsmead) who completed this event said, ‘this was the first time many of us have taken part in an ultra marathon event.  The conditions were very tough, but we all really enjoyed ourselves and many of us are considering doing this event again.’

Also taking part in this race were two Thanet Roadrunners relay teams.  Each team was made up of five members who each ran a 6.55 mile lap.  The teams comprised:

Team 1 Donna Perkins, Claire Stirk, Helen Langsmead Mark Perkins Richard Stirk,
Team 2 Karen Daniels, Julia Hermitage, Tanya Edwards, Ian Lockyer, Mark Foster

The club also supported the event with marshals.   Club members Sharon Foster and Derek Sackett marshaled the now legendary Jelly Baby Corner and Ian Lockyer marshaled at Chitty Lane.

Mike Inkster, Director of Challenge Hub said, ‘Our challenges are not races. They have a simple purpose: to give individuals the opportunity to take on a challenge that tests both mental and physical fortitude in a safe environment.  We congratulate all those that took part in such tough conditions...you are all winners.’

Pam added, ‘thanks to all the marshals for giving up their time and providing such great support.  Also thanks to the Challenge Hub for putting on such a great event.  Whilst running the course, I heard one of the athletes say that this was the most fun you could have with your clothes on….I think that sort of resonated with everyone.’

A special mention to Bob Wild who is now stepping up the mileage and taking part in the Grand Union Canal Race in May (145 miles)...now that would be an amazing achievement!
