Whitstable 10k

Bank Holiday Monday is traditionally fixed in the East Kent running calendar for a trip to Whitstable for the 10km race from Tankerton slopes to Herne Bay and back – hosted by Canterbury Harriers. This race represents the start of the shorter, faster races after the spring marathons.

Despite the windy conditions, the packed streets at Tankerton and at Chestfield, and the uneven surfaces, there were fast times with two Thanet Roadrunners going under 40 minutes. Ashley Day and David Bennett came home in 15thand 18thposition respectively in a race won by unattached runner Chris Carre in 34.04. Ashley and David’s performances, along with Alex Horsley produced a team finish of 5thout of 13 – with Deal Tri coming first. First Thanet lady was the ever-dependable Kay Bailey in 48:39. she finished in the top 30 of the womens’ race – won by Heidi Coleman of Invicta East Kent. Thanet Ladies came eighth out of twelve in the team event. This was won by Dartford Road Runners. Thanet Roadrunners were 5th in the Men's Team event with Ashley, Dave and Alex making the team - equal on points to Canterbury Harriers who stole 4th, and just ONE second slower on time. The Ladies' team were 8th Overall.
