Thanet 20 - Provisional Results and Report

Conditions for this morning’s Thanet 20 mile race started good, dry and with a bit of wind that picked up later, and although many travelled down in rain, about half the field crossed the line without being rained on!

Congratulations to all runners today, and big thanks to all race organisers, marshals and of course our race sponsors and supporters – Cardy Construction; Thanet District Council; Booker Cash and Carry; Sweatshop Maidstone; Churchill Tavern; Thanet Constabulary; RAYNET; The Margate Ambulance services; and local scout groups, without whose support the race would not have been restored to the Kent road race calendar. Although the site seems to be down at the moment, please could all runners rate the race and leave and comments on Runners World - it helps us and also any prospective runners in the future.

We now have the provisional results from this morning’s Thanet 20 mile race. There were 411 finishers, led home by Ben Shearer of Cambridge Harriers in 1hr 53mins 46secs, a minute ahead of Medway and Maidstone’s Tom Collins, with another four minutes back to Paul Hasler of Paddock Wood in third. First lady past the post was Mel Frazier of Gravesend Road Runners in 2hrs 12mins 11secs, over two minutes clear of Deal Tri’s Jill Cliff, with another minute back to Alexie Shaw of Dulwich Runners. Paddock Wood comfortably claimed the men’s team trophy, whilst Gravesend completed the double with the ladies’ team prize.

Full details are in the links below – if anyone spots any issues, please mail us at thanetrace@yahoo.co.uk:

On the home front, despite many club members marshalling, there was a great turn-out of 25 TRACcies. Several runners tackled 20 miles for the first time, including Nick Lever, Chris Brenchley, Mark Chapman and Donna Perkins, and there was a fair few new personal bests, including for Steve King, Andy Stevens, me, Paul Yuill, Spencer Hoult, Gen Holden, Sarah Harmes, Debbie Hatt and Bill Wright – huge apologies to anyone else who was a first timer or bettered their last time – mail me and I’ll credit you accordingly!

If anyone has any photos they’d like to share, please mail them to me at webmaster@thanetroadrunners.org.uk. We’ll have the updated standing for the 2012 Kent Grand Prix in due course.

Other than that, we hope to see many of you again next year, but please bear in mind the Kent Coastal Marathon and Half Marathon on 2nd September (for which entries are being accepted already!) and the Alan Green Memorial 10 mile race on 2nd December.
