Oxon 40

Saturday 5th May 2012 saw Peter Johnson and John Cooper travel to Henley-On-Thames to take part in the Oxon 40. The event was organised by the Thames Valley LDWA and despite being a walking event they were more than happy to allow runners to take part. The event was over a very scenic and undulating multi-terrain course. Due to the large amount of rain over the last month the underfoot conditions on the off road sections were very wet and muddy making it difficult to get good grip especially when running up hill. The event was very well organised with all the check points being run by friendly helpful marshals who were ready with much welcomed drinks and light refreshments. At the end of the event, there were hot and cold drinks and an excellent spread of cold food which was all included in the entry fee of £7. Your start times were recorded and you had 6 check points which you had to go. The early walkers could start off at 0700 hours and then others could start up until the latest start time of 0930 for the fastest runners. Peter and john started at different times and despite seeing each other just before the start they did not meet up again until they had both finished. Peter finished in a time of 8 hours 28 mins and John in a time of 8 hours 31 minutes.

Peter Johnson stayed over on the Saturday night before travelling on the Sunday morning 6th May 2012 to run in the North Dorset Village Marathon, where he finished in 111th place in a time of 3 hours 41 minutes.
