Kent Cross Country Championships

TRAC was well-represented by the Juniors at the KCAA Kent County Cross-Country Championships on Saturday 7th January 2012.  Despite ideal weather on the day, the course at Wilmington Grammar School had some very boggy sections following heavy rain during the week.  Runners also had to contend with numerous twists and tight turns and two short but pretty steep hills on each lap.  All this placed an emphasis on positioning and tactical awareness as the races unfolded.

The Thanet Roadrunners AC competitors on the day, with their finishing positions and race times, were as follows:

Under 13 Girls (3035m)

10th Emily Bond 12:15

37th Kealy Goldsmith 14:07

Under 13 Boys (3285m)

14th Caine Moir 12:08

27th Tom Winch 12:54

31st Alfie Grafton 13:29

Under 15 Boys (4180m)

28th Bobby Harrop 15:14

Under 17 Men (6480m)

13th Rob Morris 22:01

Under 20 Men (8050m)

16th Will Hayward 34:29

There was an extremely rough start to the U13 Boys' race, during which Caine Moir found himself on the ground.  He would otherwise have finished a few positions closer to the lead.

Amber Guyatt, who represented TRAC throughout the KCAA League season, ran in the U15 Girls' race, finishing 14th in 15:18.  On this occasion, she ran for Thanet AC, her first-claim club, as it was a Kent Championship event.

It was a great day's racing, on which the Juniors once again did the club proud.  On behalf of the athletes and their parents, heartfelt thanks go to the Management Committee for providing transport to the event, just as they did throughout the KCAA League series.
