Mount Ephraim 10k, Dartford Half Marathon & Race 4 Life

Thanet Roadrunners AC members have recently been extremely busy out and about on the local race circuit at several events.

The club 10K championships were this year held at the Mount Ephraim 10K.  The course is a tough one winding its way through scenic but hilly countryside and the very hot weather on the day made the race extra tough this year.  First home for TRAC this year, and therefore club champion, was Andy Stevens who finished in a creditable 40 mins 30 seconds for 18thplace overall.  After the race Andy said “From a personal point of view I was delighted with the run, delighted with winning the club championship and even more delighted to make a successful return from injury after 3 months of frustration & first competitive run since February”.  Ladies club champion was Kay Bailey whose time of 53:47 gave her 149thoverall in a race won by Chris Homes from Invicta East Kent with Tina Oldershaw 1stlady overall in 38:25. Both Thanet teams managed 6th place overall.

On the same hot day, club member Abdi Madar who has had a great series of runs for the club in the East Kent road relays over 2.5 – 3 miles turned his hand to the 13.1 mile half marathon distance in the Dartford Half Marathon.  Abdi achieved a superb 2nd place overall in the race, clocking a time of 1 hour 14 minutes and 24 seconds coming in a couple of minutes behind winner Dean Lacy from Cambridge Harriers but fully 4 minutes ahead of the 3rd placed competitor.

Finally on a different note altogether, some Thanet Roadrunners members turned out as volunteer course marshals for the Race 4 Life race held at Palm Bay, again under sunny blue skies with light winds.  As well as contributing to this great event, members were proud to see young Thanet Roadrunners member Tilly Ellis-Jarman racing in the lead and winning convincingly – well done Tilly!!
