Saturday 18th August saw Oliver Cooper taking part in the National Finals of the Street Athletics in Manchester. In Oliver's age group (Under 15) there were 5 heats of 5 in round 1 with the heat winners and the 10 fastest losers progressing to the semi-finals.

Oliver finished second in his heat in 8:12 seconds. In the semi-finals Oliver was drawn in lane 1 in the second of three heats, with the heat winners and the 2 fastest losers progressing to the final. Oliver ran a faster time finishing in 4th place in a time of 8:00 seconds, which unfortunately meant that he would not progress into the finals, despite running the 5th fastest time in the semi-finals. His semi-final in fact was the fastest of the 3 heats with the three runners finishing in front of him all qualifying for the final. The winner of the third heat won his race in a time of 8:24 seconds almost a quarter of a second slower than Oliver's time. Oliver ran well and was unlucky with the draw but enjoyed the experience. What was interesting was that the under 15 boys’ times in the final were faster than the times recorded by the under 17 boys.
