Kent Schools' Biathlon Championships

Sunday 20th November 2011 saw the Kent Schools' Biathlon Championships at Medway Park, Gillingham.  Three TRAC juniors took part (competing as members of Thanet Swim Club) and all did very well.

Beth Williams competed in the very tough Year 5 age group. After the 500m track run, she was lying in 2nd place, with a time of 1m 43.23s. As it was "non-transitional", she had time to recoup before her 50m swim. With 37.05s (an improvement of over two seconds on her previous 50m freestyle PB), Beth recorded the fourth fastest swim.  Once both run and swim performances had been converted to points, Beth was in 4th place overall and has been invited to the semi-final at Crystal Palace in February.

Ben Pond and Alex Kirkpatrick meanwhile competed in the Year 11 boys' age group. Ben had a bad back after the warm up and was unsure whether to compete. Despite this, he managed to win the 1000m run in 3:01.51 with Alex 2nd in 3:06.97. In the pool, both boys achieved new PBs for the 100m freestyle (Ben 56.43s, Alex 59.68s). All times have now been entered into the rankings for the semi-final of the National competition.

Thanks to Steve Williams, Liz Pond and Steve King.
