Junior Pride on St. George's Day

On St. George’s day, Saturday 23rd April, Emily Bond represented Thanet Roadrunners AC at the Medway and Maidstone open meeting. She won her 800m race impressively, clocking 2:38.39 - eleven seconds ahead of the second-placed athlete!

Meanwhile, the biggest and fastest field to date took part in the Whitstable Park Run. For the first time, the men’s winner went under 18 minutes. TRAC junior Hughie Coleman completed the distance in 25:51, finishing 43rd of the 90 runners.  Pretty good going for an eight year old against mostly adults! Elsewhere Gary Gillatt (14th, 21.44), Terry Brightwell (31st, 24.11), Rick Ryder (50th 26.53) and Bill Wright (60th, 28.48) also took part. Terry moved back to the top of the points chart.

A week earlier, as I was heading down to the South West on 16th April, a few TRACies turned out at the Whitstable Park Run. Steve King came 2nd, with a new PB of  19.44s, just a week after running at Paris. Geoff London (6th) and Park Run regular Terry Brightwell (13th) also set new PBs of 21.20 and 23.16 respectively. Rob Gladden (32nd) completed the Thanet quartet, with 26.35. There was another bumper field of 83.

In addition to the scheduled run on Saturday 30th, there will also be another 5k Park Run event at 9am on Royal Wedding Day, 29th April (in case you weren't aware...), if you want to start the festivities with a bit of a leg stretch!
