Coasters GB 2010 (9th Aug 2010)

Location: Rochester to Dover

A number of club runners did their bit to ensure that Barry the Baton continued his trek around the coast of Britain.

Highly influenced by Eddie Izzard's fantastic feat of 43 marathons in 52 days, and one man's innate desire to "do something a bit different", the question "would it be possible to run a relay around the Coast of Great Britain?" was posed. The departure of a baton named Barry from Blackpool Tower on the 9th May gave us part of the answer.

On 9th August, Mark Foster and Maria Davis picked up the baton at Rochester, and completed a mammoth leg to hand over to Alex Horsley at Faversham, who continued on to Seasalter. The next day, Bill Wright set off to Reculver, where he met up with Karen Daniels, who carried onto Ed Heardman at Margate for the final leg of the day to Pegwell Bay. Thanet Roadrunners completed their part in the challenge on the 11th August, when Cliff Stokes, Mark Ashmore, Dave Bennett and Barbara Gambrill made their way to Dover.

The journey will hopefully finish some time in October, but for further details, please see the Coasters website.
