Harbour Wallbanger

Harbour Wallbanger 2017 (15th Apr 2017)

Location: Viking Bay, Broadstairs

Start time: 09:30

Host: TRAC

Well done to all the runners in this morning's 2017 edition of our popular beach race, the Harbour Wallbanger. The sellout led to the largest field for some years, with 226 finishers.  First home was Thanet RoadRunner’s AC runner, Matthew Collyer in 26.46, just under 2 minutes ahead of Jay Bailey in 28.13 who was just clear of Paul Johnston who crossed the line in 28.35.

First lady home was Liz Weeks of Medway & Maidstone AC in 29.53, followed by Ellie Campbell in 30.59 and Amanda Nygaard in 32.28.

TRAC also carried off the Ladies team (Claire Greenaway, Abigail Cardwell and Rebecca Hales) and Mens team prizes (Matthew Collyer, Simon Arter and Nigel Cook).  Loads of TRACcies took part – far too many to list – but well done all!!

Well done to Race Director Spencer Hoult and the team for another successful event, and very many thanks to the Broadstairs Pavilion, Sweatshop Maidstone, RAYNET, Margate Ambulance Services and all the marshals en route.

In due course, Spencer will be presenting at least £1 from each entry to the Thanet Lifeguard Club, which encourages water safety awareness and Lifesaving skills to the people of Thanet and the community within. The club is part of Surf Life Saving GB, with more than 6,000 volunteers helping to make our beaches a safer and more enjoyable place for everyone.

Photos today were taken by Andy Stevens.

Next up is the Fosters Law Kent Coastal Marathon and Half Marathon on 3rd September – a stamina test to start the autumn! Check the web link for more detail and make sure you get your entry in early to avoid disappointment!
