Many thanks to Phil and the team for organising another successful event, and also to the marshals. Big thanks also to our supporters, without whom there would be no race - TMS Property Services, RAYNET and The Margate Ambulance Service.

Make sure you catch the 220 Triathlon magazine, for a race write up! If anyone has any photos they'd like to share with the world, please mail them to at

We now have the results from yesterday’s Duathlon – there are a few photos also on the race page. Thanks to Liz King of Tri Spirit Team and Paul Durham. We’ll have a write up of the day in due course, but Liz has sent a link to a report for 220 Triathlon.

Sorry for the day, but here are the full results from Sunday’s duathlon. There were 92 individual finishers in all, Congratulations to Carl Ferri of Blue Door Cycles who dipped under 75 minutes, on conditions ideally suited to a fast time, and which we think might be a course record. Keith Brewster of Crystal Palace Triathletes was second three minutes back, and Ashford Tri’s Keir Williams a little over 30 seconds away in third.

As for the fairer sex, Sally Smith finished a minute ahead of Claire Brooker in 1.42.58, while Tri Spirit Team’s Liz King beat 1.50 to be the third lady home.

The team competition was hotly contested, with James Hall and Ashley Day one second ahead of Trevor Meadway and Victoria Kenny.

There are a few photos on the race page linked above. Thanks also to Liz King who has penned a few words by way of report for 220 Triathlon, and to the winner Carl Ferri, who has done likewise.  I've had photos from Liz, Andy Stevens, Paul Wood and Paul Durham - thanks everyone!

Hope to see you again next year!

Carl Ferri - This was my 1st outing to the classic mid-winter Thanet off Road duathlon after having to pull out last year due to injury. It’s a real test of how the winter training is going and after hearing of how tough the bike/final run section is from a veteran of the race my friend Richard Lewey and also being my first outing in my new sponsor’s Blue Door Cycles kit, I was slightly nervous!

The nerves soon settled amongst the relaxed atmosphere at the start for the 2.4 mile out and back along the promenade run taking in the fantastic views of the sea. The marshals were there in all the right places smiling and pointing us in the right direction.

Soon into T1 in 1st place with about a 30 sec gap, quick change over and onto the flat but tough off rd bike section around the edge of fields for two 4.5 mile laps. I have heard in previous years this can be very challenging due to the deep mud that can make the going very tough. This year was different though due to lack of rain and snow recently so apart from the 1st part of the course it was nice and dry to record nice fast times. I kept my lead until towards the end of the 2nd lap but was finally caught and we battled it out for the last mile or so into T2.

Final change over into the xc spikes and out for the final 4.5 mile xc run around the mtb course back into 1st place where I would eventually gain a 3 min lead to take the win and break the course record, but not before having to tackle the infamous dykes that are so often talked about, thankfully these were dry apart from deep mud but I can only imagine what it’s like to be waist high in water having to run back to the finish in the freezing cold!

Stayed to watch everyone cross the line and pick up their bag of goodies with a mixed look of pain and smiles spread across faces and for me to pick up my rather handsome trophy!

It was great to see so many people racing this from the sharp end to complete duathlon novices – it’s races like this that make duathlon 'fun'.

Thanks to Phil and all the marshals for the smiles and support around the whole course and to make the event run smooth on the day,
