Cooking up a treat in Reading

Nigel Cook and Sally Mumford travelled to Reading last weekend for the Mizuno Half Marathon. This is a large event with some 16000 runners taking part on the day. The event proved to be very well organised with all the facilities you would expect at an event of this size. The race started at 1015 so they spent an enjoyable Saturday night at the nearby Hilton hotel.

Despite all his experience, Nigel decided to run with an injury sustained whilst dog training the week before. This unsurprisingly resulted in a slow and painful morning for him!

Sally faired much better however, running a PB of 2:18. The race culminated with a finish inside the Madjeski stadium, home of Reading FC where a surprisingly large crowd welcomed them home.
One downside was the length of the queue at the baggage tents but on the whole an event that is highly recommended.
Two more runners from the club took part with John and Joanne Holl completing the distance in the very respectable times of 1:50 and 1:52 respectively.
