Record Breaking Faversham 10K!

Sunday saw this years Faversham 10k and it was the biggest turn out in the history of the event with 509 runners.

This caught out some people leaving entry late, as the race sold out the week before. A number of TRACies were unsuccessful in getting a place.

The event supports the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and is based at The Abbey School with the course winding out through the beautiful lanes of Faversham.

Starting the race was a young man by the name of Liam who suffers from cystic fibrosis and the round of applause he received really was heartfelt.

It was very well run and is receiving good feedback.

The weather was fine with the temperature about right although it did feel a little humid so the water stations were a welcome sight out on the course.

The race was attended by seven TRACies and the meet was record breaking in more than one sense of the word.

Two TRACies set new PB's with Abigail Cardwell finishing in 97th with a time of 48:42 and Karen Moys in 189th with a time of 54:22.

This is a fantastic effort as the course can definitely not be described as flat, with a long dragging hill in the first half and a steeper one just before 8K. Well done ladies!

All TRACies ran great times with special mention to Jo Jeffreys who has just come back from injury. Well done Jo.

68th   Gary Gillatt   46:55

81st   Richard Purton   47:38

97th   Abigail Cardwell   48:42

315th   Jo Jeffreys   1:01:22

491st   Noz Simpson   1:18:12

492nd   Gaynor Shelvey   1:18:51

Full results can be found here.

I happened to mention to Gaynor and Noz how hard I had found to race and how the hills had taken me by surprise. I was soon put in by place as they both told me how easy they had found it and how much they had enjoyed it and the views. Testament to the both of them and to the event.

Well done to all on what I consider to be a tough course.
