Thanet Roadrunners' Cameron Wins Maidstone Marathon

Following on from his impressive performance in the recent Sittingbourne 10 miler where he achieved 3rd place, Thanet athlete Bradley Cameron went two places further this time winning the prestigious Maidstone Marathon on Sunday 15th October 2017 with not only a personal best but a course record of 2 hours 48 minutes.

The popular Maidstone Marathon/Half Marathon takes in a rural Kent course featuring the challenging lanes in and around the villages of Boughton Monchelsea, Loose and East Farleigh. The route uses a single loop for the half marathon with the marathon runners completing the second circuit.

Bradley who has only recently returned to athletics said, ‘it was good day weather wise to run.  It wasn't too windy and about the right temperature apart from about mile 23 when the sun popped out.  But that was close to the end, and I was  able to hold my concentration and pace, especially as some parts of the course were extremely hilly.'

On winning the marathon, Bradley said., ‘I was aiming for a sub 2:55 but was banking on taking advantage of the downhill parts as I'd been warned that there are some bad hills.'

He added, 'I'm still shocked.   I am also a little taken back, especially as it was a course record as well.’

This wasn’t the only good news from the race with Ruby Spencer being the fourth lady home in the Maidstone Half Marathon…just outside the podium position

Their results are as follows.

Place   Name                           Time                Race

1          Bradley Cameron         02:48:14          (Maidstone Marathon)

40        Ruby Spencer              01:41:48          (Maidstone Half Marathon)

Everyone at the club is so proud of Bradley and Ruby…next stop for the pair is the Malaga Marathon in Spain at the end of the years.
