Iain Cousins Takes Part in the Valentines 10k in Chessington

Ian Cousins sent me this report about the Valentines 10k that he took part in last weekend.  It’s always good to hear reports from races that most of us wouldn’t normally take part in.

‘466 people lined up at the start of the 2018 Valentines 10k excellently organised by the 26.2 Road Runners Club in Surbiton. The day was thankfully bright with a moderate wind, for which everyone was thankful after the overnight rain.’

‘The race was brilliantly marshalled, which was good as it wasn't on closed roads, and the initial 1.5km is on the A243!  With only a few hills the route is largely flat and takes you out towards Hook, around Horton Park and then back towards Chessington.‘

‘This is a friendly race; maybe the title puts everyone in an amiable mood!  I struggled round in 38:30 coming home in 16th place and 2nd in the V40 category some 8 minutes behind the winner!  He must have had rockets on his shoes!!’

‘The Valentines 10k is a super race; it's just a shame the pictures aren't a little more flattering!!!’

Thanks Ian for the report and well done on the run!
