Thanet Super8

Three of TRAC's U13 athletes represented their schools at the Marlowe Academy on Thursday 24th May 2012.  The event was the second annual Thanet Schools' Year 7 Super8 Athletics Championships.

Super8 is a team format being rolled out by England Athletics for both school and club competition.  Teams of eight athletes take part, with every team member required to participate in a track event, a field event and a relay leg.

Kealy Goldsmith and Caine Moir (both Dane Court), plus Emily Bond (Wellesley House) each won their individual 800m races convincingly.  Caine was also part of the Dane Court team that won the 4x100m relay in 57.5 seconds.  Kealy's Dane Court quartet also scored in 63.1 seconds, with Emily's Wellesley House foursome fourth in 65.2 seconds.

In their individual events, the Year 7 Thanet Roadrunners AC members' performances were:

Caine Moir            800m  1st boy overall 2:28*         LJ  4th     3m 68cm

Emily Bond           800m  1st girl overall 2:30*         HJ  2nd    1m 15cm

Kealy Goldsmith    800m  3rd girl overall 2:54*         LJ  2nd    3m 60cm

(* Unfortunately, the Super8 protocol for 800m races requires that all times are rounded up to the nearest whole second.)

As part of the winning Dane Court girls' team, Kealy will now represent Thanet Schools' at the Kent School Games Super 8 final.  This takes place at Canterbury on Thursday 21st June 2012.

Before that, numerous TRAC Juniors will be in action at two Track & Field meetings during half-term:

The next Invicta East Kent open meeting takes place on Wednesday 6th June 2012 at the Canterbury High School track.  Two days later, on Friday 8th June 2012, Thanet AC hold the third of their U11 open meeting series at the Marlowe Academy, Ramsgate.  For information on these events, please speak to your coach at training.
