Minnis Bay Cross Country

Sunday 8th January saw the latest leg of the 2011-12 Kent Fitness League being held over what can only be described as a testing but real cross country course at Minnis Bay. Unlike the other races in the series this was not run around local parks but over local by-ways and footpaths alongside open fields. The course also saw runners having to negotiate a number of dykes during the 6 mile route. The field saw 328 finishers which despite being a record number of finishers for the Minis Bay Course the field was still around 100 runners less than other venues this season.

The course was very firm under foot with some slippery sections in the first 2 miles where water had settled just below the promenade where the horses had churned the ground up. The day was dry but there was an icy cold wind which made the day very cold. The first male and female were both from Deal Tri which was a great effort considering both of them cycled over to Minnis Bay before running and then cycled home again afterwards. Thanet Roadrunners had 15 runners on the day the first home being Noel Sutton in 3rd place. There were 15 Thanet Roadrunner finishers due to Debbie Hatt having to pull out early on due to her sustaining an ankle injury. On the day the Thanet Roadrunners AC finished 11th in the combined league and the ladies' league with the men’s team finishing 12th on the day. In the overall league positions after 5 events Thanet Roadrunners are placed remain in 17th place in the combined league, with the ladies team moving up to 15th place and the men’s team moving up to 16th place.

Big thanks to those who set up the course and who marshalled on the day. The next race is Sunday 15th January at Nursted Court Meopham, where it is hoped that Thanet Roadrunners will be able to field a full team. Please let Steve Clarke or Sarah Harmes know if you can make the trip.
