Juniors at Minnis Bay

TRAC’s annual home fixture in the Kent Fitness League Cross-country series, on Sunday 8th January 2012, was preceded by Round 4 of the junior competition.  A total of 47 youngsters took part, ten more than last year and more than at any of this year’s three earlier rounds.

Eleven young Thanet Roadrunners took part, with two winning their categories and a further two placing second.

Last year’s overall U13 Boys’ winner, Alex Kavanagh, took just 8:45 to complete the 2.3 km course and remain unbeaten after four rounds of this year’s competition.  Imogen Bushell, meanwhile, returning from injury, won the U16 Girls’ race in 10:23 on her first appearance in the 2012 competition.

Special mention should go to Kealy Goldsmith and Bobby Harrop, who both ran well just twenty-four hours after running at the Kent Championships at Wilmington.

Full race results are now available, with those for TRAC runners (with category positions and finishing times) given below. The latest league standings are also available.

Thanks are due to all the club members who gave up much of their Saturday morning in setting out the course on Minnis Bay seafront, as well as to everyone who marshalled the event on the day. Thanks also to Steve King for the write up, to John Cooper for the results files, and to Mike Sharpe for the selection of his photos (at the bottom of the page). Here’s a link to the full range of Mike's photos, which you can view for the next few days and download at your leisure!

The next round of the KFL Junior Series takes place at Nurstead Court, Meopham this coming Sunday, 15th January at 10:20.  By then, many of the TRAC youngsters will already have been in action on Saturday 14th January at the Kent Secondary Schools’ Cross-country Championships at Kent College, Canterbury.
