Race for Life - Free Training Course

On 24th July 2011 this year’s edition of the Thanet Race for Life will take place at Palm Bay, Margate as part of the nationwide series of Tesco and Cancer Research UK’s Races for Life. Cancer Research UK is entirely funded by the public and needs your support to continue to make progress and give hope to people affected by cancer. For details fo how to enter, please follow the Race for Life link.

These races celebrate people’s victories against cancer and remember those who were not so fortunate, as well as raising money towards cancer research.

The races attract ladies from all walks of life, of all ages and of all athletic abilities from the experienced club athletes down to groups of friends and families who walk the 5K course together and soak up every moment of the atmosphere of such a great event. Over the years Thanet Roadrunners AC members have been involved in helping out and marshalling on the day and many ladies have come up to us and asked about how to take their new found enthusiasm for running further and some have remarked on how they will be back next year having done more training – fitter and faster!

To aid the ladies of Thanet and the surrounding area, this year Thanet Roadrunners AC are offering a free “Preparation for the Race for Life” course, the aim of which is to give ladies confidence, training tips and guidance on completing the Race for Life 5K as well as the opportunity to meet up with like-minded people who have similar aims and targets.

All ladies looking to prepare for Race for Life are welcome to come along for some free advice and training under the guidance of experienced runners and supervised by qualified UKA coaches. Groups are expected to cater for walkers, run/walkers, joggers and runners – everyone is welcome and everyone will be well looked after. Furthermore Thanet Roadrunners AC will not be charging for this course in the spirit of the money raising efforts of Race for Life.

The course starts Wednesday 1 June and continues for another 7 weeks, every Wednesday, giving an 8 week preparation time prior to the race. Additionally ladies will be given guidance on what they should be aiming to do in between the weekly training meetings. We will meet at The Lookout Cafe, Westcliff in Ramsgate at around 6.20pm for a 6.30pm start. Ladies simply need to make sure they are wearing proper running shoes and ideally loose fitting and comfortable sports clothing. Please bring a bottle of water along as you may want a drink both during and after the sessions and a warm top for after the session.

For further information about this free training opportunity, please contact Mark Foster or Jackie Lee.
