Final Standings in Grand Prix and Club Championships

Another decent club showing at the Maidstone Half Marathon last weekend resulted in the men securing fifth spot and the ladies seventh – a great achievement considering the size of some other clubs in the county.

The club had over forty scoring runners over the year, with four men and three ladies in the top 30, and scorers in every age category, with Terry Brightwell best placed with 5th in the v60.

Have a look at the final Grand Prix standings to see what you need to beat next year – the club has had a great year and we’ll have to pull out the stops to go better in 2013!

A very well done and big thanks to everyone who took any part in the series, and not just the scorers – it’s a team event and like the cross country, the more people who attend the better chance the club has. But at least everyone who took part will have made the full final club championship standings.

Despite not racing at Maidstone, Steve King claimed the overall men’s club championship by two points from Andy Stevens, with Chris Brenchley’s new half marathon personal best securing him third place. Chris also picked up second spot behind Steve in the v40. John Cooper claimed the v50 title ahead of Steve Clarke, with Steve Suttle in bronze position, while Spencer Hoult moved into third place in the senior men’s category. Terry Brightwell wrapped up victory in the v60.

The top three in the ladies all ran, with Sarah Harmes beating Debbie Hatt and Pam Philpot, but another run from Becky Williams would likely have seen her do the double as she claimed the senior ladies title. Pam and Gaynor Shelvey were clear winners in the v45 and v55 respectively.

We’ll see what next year holds in store, but the awards will be made at the presentation night in the New Year.

Keep an eye on the gallery, as (thanks to Brian Brenchley) I'll be adding some photos from Maidstone over the next few days.
