September is a busy Racing Month!

September is a big sporting month for Thanet Roadrunners AC with 3 races organised by the club along with the Deal Tri Junior Triathlon which the club is supporting as a way of encouraging young people to give sport a go.

The big month starts on the first weekend with the Kent Coastal Marathon and Half Marathon both being staged on Sunday 5th September.   The marathon, whose main sponsor is Fosters Law, this year also incorporates the Kent County Marathon Championships and the Southern Counties Vets Marathon Championships and so will attract a high quality field at the sharp end of the race, although with a generous time limit and a flat second half the race is also accessible to the well-prepared novice marathoner.

The Kent Coastal Half Marathon, also sponsored by Fosters Law, sets off at the same time as the marathon at 9.30 am and all runners run the 1st 13.1 miles together running out towards Ramsgate and then back to Cliftonville where the half marathon runners finish and the full marathon competitors continue to complete a further 13.1 mile loop which takes them out to Minnis Bay and back.

The 3rd Thanet Roadrunners AC organised race in September takes place on 26th September and is the popular off road Quicksands 15, supported by Alexander’s Photography, which takes runners from Margate main sands to Ramsgate and back again on a course which spends a lot of time on the beach and going up and down tracks and steps to and from the cliff tops.  A tough race which is not to be underestimated – conditions underfoot vary according to the previous week’s weather and tides and there is a 4-hour cut off time limit to complete the race following the 9 AM start to make sure all competitors can “beat the tide”.

Entry forms for these races can be downloaded from the Thanet Roadrunners website at

Finally in addition to the races hosted by Thanet Roadrunners AC they are also lending their support to the Junior Fun Triathlon due to be hosted by Deal Tri in Hartsdown Park on 19th September.  The race is open to juniors aged 8 to 16 years old as of 31st December 2010 and the distances vary according to age.  All competitors complete a pool swim, followed by an off road bike and an off road run all within the confines of Hartsdown Park.  Forms for this race can be obtained from Race Director, Angie Taylor who can be contacted via the link on the Deal Tri website at contact email
